Cape Town - The report on the government's controversial arms deal that will be released on Thursday casts doubt on the process of procuring arms, according to the SABC.

According to the report, there were no grounds to consider the government's contracting process as flawed.

The report does, however, cast doubts on the awarding of sub-contracts, where there was conflict of interests in the procuring process.

It mentions a major contract that was awarded to African Defence Systems (ADS) of which defence acquisition head Chippy Shaik's brother, Shabir, is a shareholder and director.

It recommends that parliament should introduce measures to prevent high-ranking government officials from benefitting from state contracts.

The report also indicates that cabinet should have been better supplied with financial information on the arms package in the light of escalating costs.
