PAN Africanist Congress (PAC) Member of
Parliament Patricia de Lille and the party's secretary general Thami Plaatjie
have been summoned by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions to fully disclose
all information they claim to have on African National Congress (ANC) officials
allegedly involved in irregularities in the country’s R43 billion arms deal.
Plaatjie said that he
received the summons this afternoon and would appear at prosecutions director
Bulelani Ngcuka's office on Friday.
He said that the PAC
was consulting its lawyers and would make a decision tomorrow on whether or not
to release the information.
De Lille, meanwhile,
has stated that she is obtaining legal opinion on the matter and will comment on
Thursday.
Plaatjie told
journalists at a press conference this week that the party had the names of at
least five senior ANC officials who were involved in irregular activities around
the country's controversial arms deal. "Another ANC official will 'fall' in
two weeks time," he said.
However, the party did
not release the list of names, saying that after consultation with its lawyers,
it decided not to go that route.
Plaatjie said that the
party would release the names once it was able to verify the information in its
hands.
Some private
investigators and media were given the information to investigate further,
Plaatjie told the press conference.
