Businessman Fani Titi has been appointed chairperson of Armscor, the arms procurement agency announced in Pretoria on Tuesday.

It said the appointment by Defence Minister Mosiuoa Lekota would come into effect on April 1.

Titi will take over from Sindi Mabaso who has been acting as chair since September 1 last year.

He is currently chief executive officer of Tiso Capital and formerly served as chief executive of Kagiso Media.

Titi is a member of the boards of Kumba Resources and Bidvest Group.

He holds an masters degree in mathematics from the University of California, as well as an MBA from the University of the Witwatersrand.
