Cape Town - The PAC
has urged South Africans to be patient and await the outcome of a judicial
review of President Thabo Mbeki's decision to exclude the Heath unit from the
arms deal probe.
Briefing the media at
Parliament on Wednesday, Pan Africanist Congress Chief Whip Patricia de Lille
said her party was well aware of citizens' impatience on the matter.
On Monday, De Lille
announced the PAC intended to go ahead with a judicial review of Mbeki's
decision to exclude Judge Willem Heath's anti-corruption unit from the R43
billion arms investigation.
She said lawyers had
scrutinised the documentation - provided by Mbeki on February 7 - on which the
president based his decision to exclude the unit.
"After
consultation with the legal team, we have decided to proceed to court to review
the decision of the state president taken on 19 January."
At Wednesday's
briefing, De Lille said she trusted the courts and would respect whatever ruling
was made.
She would not be drawn
on details of the PAC's case.
Asked whether the
recent appointment of Azanian People's Organisation (Azapo) leader Mosibudi
Mangena as deputy education minister would affect unity talks with Azapo, PAC
president Stanley Mogoba said this would not be the case.
The PAC was quite
happy with Mangena's appointment, and would itself consider such appointments if
approached.
Unity talks between
the PAC, Azapo and the Socialist Party of Azania (Sopa) would continue.
