CAPE TOWN United Democratic Movement leader Bantu Holomisa has sent an open letter to speaker of the National Assembly Frene Ginwala calling for the R43bn arms probe to be extended to cover the entire deal, and not just the subcontracting procedures.
This was due to "further revelations of the possible proliferation of irregularities in the entire deal". Holomisa also said an investigation into the role of a cabinet subcommittee, allegedly chaired by President Thabo Mbeki, in awarding the contracts should be clarified, as it seemed this subcommittee "usurped" the functions of the tender board.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) will meet the SA National Editors Forum tomorrow to discuss its position on the arms deal.
PAC MP Patricia de Lille and general secretary Thami ka Plaatjie both summoned to appear before the national director of public prosecution, Bulelani Ngcuka, to discuss information which they have in connection with the case will lead the delegation.
