Tony Yengeni is not the first Member of Parliament to have had a brush with the law. Other MPs who have had their day in court include:

Abe Williams: The former National Party MP and Western Cape Welfare MEC was jailed in September 2000 after being convicted of fraud in the Cape Town High Court. He was released on parole after serving a third of his sentence.

Steve Mbuyiswa: In February 1999, the ANC suspended National Assembly MP Steve Mbuyiswa after he was arrested for allegedly stealing a cellphone to give to his wife, Agnes Sambo, as a special Valentine's Day present. After his conviction, Mbuyiswa was suspended from the ANC.

Dennis Neer: The Eastern Cape Transport MEC was convicted in July 1998 for failing to lock his firearm away and was sentenced to six months or a R2 000 fine. He remains the MEC for Transport.
