The son of Deputy President Jacob Zuma could still be prosecuted for the alleged rape and assault of a student at the University of Zululand even though the woman has withdrawn her complaint, according to a senior public prosecutor.
Edward Muziwoxolo Zuma, 24, a second-year law student, appeared in the Mtunzini Magistrate's Court last Thursday. He was released on R800 bail and warned to appear in court again on December 19.
Mduduzi Mzila, Mtunzini's senior public prosecutor, said "As far as we are concerned, the charges still stand. The woman cannot withdraw the charge. It's up to the public prosecutor and the courts to decide that."
