Auditor-General Shauket Fakie is to come before Parliament's watchdog public accounts committee (Scopa) to answer media allegations of omissions in the final report of the arms deal investigation.

The AG released a special report in June, in which he denied claims that the final arms deal report had been "heavily edited" and "doctored".

He labelled the allegations as unfounded and impugning on the integrity and dignity of his office.

Scopa resolved earlier this month to question Fakie on the allegations, and his report, following requests from the opposition, the Democratic Alliance, that the matter be investigated.

Last week, the committee agreed to drop a request for extensive documentation from the AG's office, including copies of the various draft arms deal reports.

Fakie had argued that he would require more time to provide members with all the information requested.

The government's controversial multi-billion rand arms deal was investigated by the AG, the Public Protector and the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

The three agencies presented their results to Parliament in November 2001, finding no evidence of unlawful conduct by the state.

Fakie has since come under fire for reported "discrepancies" between a draft report submitted to the executive and the final report.

The hearing is due to commence at 9am today.
