In her column, Ngcuka, Zuma : One Will Survive (October 2), Robyn Chalmers laments the fact that attention has shifted away from the allegations of bribery against Deputy President Jacob Zuma, and now lies with the spy allegations levelled against Bulelani Ngcuka.

The allegations against Ngcuka did not originate from Zuma, nor has he supported them, though he clearly has an opinion since he was the head of the African National Congress intelligence unit at the time the investigation is alleged to have taken place.

Throughout this unfortunate period Zuma has carried himself with the statesmanship many politicians only aspire to.

Chalmers' argument seems to be premised on the assertion that Zuma fabricated allegations against Ngcuka to divert attention from the Zuma investigation. The fact is that the investigation against Zuma ran its course, and was dropped for lack of evidence.
