While the marathon and high profile Schabir Shaik corruption trial dominated headlines this year, other court dramas also enjoyed prominence and sparked much interest in Durban courts. Monica Laganparsad recalls some of the year's headline-grabbing cases.
January
Former South African cyclist Neil Crosthwaite was jailed for seven years for paying KwaZulu-Natal Hospital officials R600 000 to secure a R12.7 million contract. He pleaded guilty in the Durban Regional Court.
October
The marathon Schabir Shaik corruption trial began in the Durban High Court. The case has been adjourned until January next year.
