Durban - An application by television and radio stations to broadcast from the Schabir Shaik trial in the Durban High Court was dismissed with costs on Tuesday.

Television broadcaster e.tv and talk radio stations 702 and Capetalk as well as SABC radio asked Judge Hillary Squires about two weeks ago for permission to broadcast audio from Shaik's fraud and corruption trial.

Squires reserved judgment on the matter on November 1 after the broadcasters had argued for the right to broadcast live or use edited audio sound from the trial in news bulletins.

Both the state and the defence opposed the applications.
