Durban - Professor Themba Sono was not listed on the directors' register of Schabir Shaik's Nkobi Holdings, the Durban High Court was told on Thursday.

This was testimony from forensic accountant Johan van der Walt at Shaik's fraud and corruption trial.

Sono told the court last week that he was appointed a director of Nkobi in 1996, first in a part-time capacity then later that year full time.

However, Van der Walt, who on Thursday outlined to the court the shareholdings and directorships of Nkobi and associated companies said this was not correct.

"Sono never appeared as a director of the company in the directors' register," he said.

Earlier, the court was told that Nkobi Holdings settled debts of about R1.2m for deputy-president Jacob Zuma because he did not have "access to sufficient funds" for his lifestyle.
