The Democratic Alliance yesterday asked parliament's public accounts committee to reopen the investigation into alleged irregularities in SA's weapons procurement deal. "We think there is circumstantial evidence that the truth is not being told," MP Helen Zille said at a press conference at parliament. She said it was the duty of opposition parties and the media to delve into the matter and uncover the truth. The party's public accounts spokesperson, Eddie Trent, said a number of pieces of evidence had come to light that supported allegations that material changes had been made to the joint investigation team's report outlining certain irregularities in the multibillion-rand arms deal.
