Pretoria: The information technology executive implicated in the hoax e-mail scandal has been released on R2 000 bail following an urgent Pretoria High Court application on Saturday.

Police spokesman Superintendent Piletji Sebola said the man is expected to appear in court soon, maybe even today.

Sebola declined to comment further on the matter.

The man was implicated in the scandal with ANC secretary-general Kgalema Motlanthe and suspended NIA head Billy Masetlha. The IT executive was, according to a Sunday newspaper report, rearrested last Thursday. He had been questioned the previous week but was released.

The report stated that he is suspected of masterminding the e-mails which were allegedly aimed at discrediting senior government and ANC officials in an alleged conspiracy against deputy president Jacob Zuma.
