Cape Town - South African Deputy President Jacob Zuma spent just R807.13 on his government credit card in the 2004/05 financial year - although the spending limit was R100 000, he said in reply to a question in parliament.

In the written reply to Democratic Alliance (DA) deputy chief whip Mike Ellis, Zuma noted that the expenditure was incurred "on official photos and an official album for the South Africa/Nigeria Bi-national Commission".

Zuma - who is a strong contender to fill the shoes of President Thabo Mbeki - has been the focus of much of the fraud and corruption trial of his financial adviser Schabir Shaik.

The trial started in October last year.

According to the State, Shaik repeatedly bankrolled Zuma - to the tune of R1.2m.

In exchange, it is alleged that he used Zuma's friendship and influence to advance his business connections.

In one of the counts of corruption facing Shaik, it is alleged that he solicited a bribe of R500 000 a year for the deputy president from Thomson-CSF (Thales).

Judge Hillary Squires will deliver judgment in the Shaik trial shortly after 14:00 on Tuesday.

The judgment will be broadcast on e-tv and SABC 2 from the High Court in Durban.

It is expected to last for two days.
