President Thabo Mbeki has been briefed on the conviction of Deputy President Jacob Zuma's financial advisor Schabir Shaik, a government spokesman said on Thursday.
"The president has been appraised and he has noted the developments," spokesman Joel Netshitenzhe said.
"And when we say that all of this will require considered reflection, we are also referring to reflection by the president himself and other authorities."
Shaik was found guilty of two charges of corruption and one of fraud in the Durban High Court earlier in the day.
Mbeki is currently on a state visit to the United States.
The Office of the Presidency said Zuma would issue a detailed statement on the matter once he had studied the contents of the judgment.
