Johannesburg: National prosecutions boss Vusi Pikoli has committed himself to ensuring that former deputy president Jacob Zuma gets a fair trial and there won't be any special favours.

Pikoli met the ANC Youth League and other youth organisations yesterday in the wake of public statements complaining that the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) had behaved "like cowboys" in raiding Zuma's homes and offices.

The youth organisations remain suspicious, saying Pikoli will have to translate his commitment into action.

"(Pikoli) will have to prove himself and his institution to make sure that they are committed to the principles and values enshrined in the constitution," said Zizi Kodwa, speaking on behalf of the youth delegation.

Kodwa said, however, that there was no reason to doubt Pikoli's commitment.

NPA spokesman Makhosini Nkosi said: "We had a legitimate court order that we enforced ... We don't believe we have done anything wrong. Having said that, we will accept the decision of the court."
