It is both unbecoming and dishonest of Jacob Zuma and his cohorts to accuse the media of his predicament. It is also very unseemly of Zwelinzima Vavi, Fikile Mbalula, Buti Manamela and Blade Nzimande to fan the flames demonising our media.

They all owe our media a big apology. The media, as it is their responsibility in a democracy, carried out their duty to keep the nation informed. No, Zuma was not tried by the media; the media simply did their duty to keep the nation informed of this whole unsavoury saga as it unfolded.

Gone are the days of apartheid press censorship and repression. Granted, there may have been some speculation, misplaced deductions and conclusions drawn, but none of this warrants accusations of a trial of Zuma by the media!

If anything, the media has conducted itself with restraint and professionalism. Surely coming from the tradition of the ANC, Zuma's conduct was unbecoming.

Our country was brought to where it is by the collective wisdom and sacrifices of our people, of which Zuma is only one individual. As for Vavi and Nzimande, the tripartite will survive their irresponsible and grandiose brinkmanship.

As for the youth in Mpumalanga, you cannot defend corruption, wherever it happens. Zuma owes the nation a big apology for his conduct.
