The Democratic Alliance (DA) has complained to police about two threatening text messages sent to DA justice spokesperson Sheila Camerer's cellphone this week, party Chief Whip Douglas Gibson said on Friday.

The messages blamed her for the sacking of former deputy president Jacob Zuma, he said in a statement. In the first message, on June 22, Camerer was warned she "will pay".

The next one contained a threat against Camerer's daughter, saying "... we will start with u (sic) child oversea (sic) or not...".

Gibson said the DA viewed this sort of threat in a very serious light.

"I have reported these threats, along with the cellphone number from which it was sent, to the SAPS. They are investigating charges of intimidation."Sheila Camerer is a politician with plenty of courage and she will not be intimidated from doing what is right," he said.
