This
is the time of year when columnists find particular pleasure in the expression
annus horribilis as they seek out the unfortunate victims of 365 days of
misfortune and despair... From Cliff Saunders, Onrus
During my lengthy
career at the SABC, it was often my task to compile programmes on "the year in
retrospect" - and what a miserable task that was. Yet holidaying happily here at
Onrus, I decided to rid myself of the last vestiges of pressure on my chest by
contributing to the annus horribilis parade.
Top of the list (naturally)
is Jacob Zuma, to whom the dictum "today a hero, tomorrow a zero" should apply -
but I doubt it will. In Africa, so-called "struggle heroes" are seldom
permanently discredited or abandoned, no matter what their transgressions.
Robert Mugabe proves the point.
