How the day unfolded
07:00: The Scorpions launch raids on premises in Gauteng, the Western Cape,KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga of, among others, Jacob Zuma, Schabir Shaik,lawyers Michael Hulley and Julie Mahomed and businesspeople Pierre Moynot,Nora Fakude-Nkuna and Gunter Kögl.
- 08:00: Mo Shaik, brother of Schabir Shaik, phones 702 Talk Radio and says the premises of his brother and Zuma are being investigated.
- 08:15: Advocate Mohamed Patel, Zuma's legal representative, arrives at Zuma's home in Forest Town, Johannesburg.
- 08:45: Members of the police's presidential protection unit screech to a stop at Zuma's home and jump from two 4x4 vehicles, brandishing R4 rifles.
- 08.50: People in the Zuma house argue in loud voices and after some time members of the Scorpions leave the house. They move their vehicles and park in the street.
- 09:00: The Scorpions investigators are allowed back inside the house, without their weapons.
- 14:00: Cosatu announces they will have a press conference on the Zuma raids.
- 14:30: The Scorpions say, during a news conference in Pretoria, they already have enough information to charge Zuma and the raids are part of a continuing investigation.
- 15:00: Cosatu says the raids could lead to turmoil and they were the result of their insistence that the charges against Zuma be dropped.
