Why do Allegations of Corruption Regarding the Arms Deal Annoy President Mbeki So Much?

Until he orders a full-scale investigation into renewed allegations of irregularities, his commitment to fighting corruption at all levels and “desire” for good, clean governance will remain suspect, notwithstanding his recent action against the deputy president.

The “Zuma affair” smacks of eliminating political competition and saving face with the G-8 countries more than anything else.

The continuing failure of the ANC government to implement such an investigation suggests a cover-up all they way up to the top *1.

What will it be? A festering sore? Will it bring forth more scandals like “Oilgate”?
