Discredited journalist Ranjeni Munusamy has washed up as an aide to Jacob Zuma, which is a bit of a wooden spoon whichever way you look at it.

And things didn't get better last week when she was robbed on her way to Johannesburg Stadium to watch her beloved Orlando Pirates.

A thief standing at a robot smashed her car window with a spark plug, grabbed her bag and fled.

Munusamy, oddly dressed for a soccer match in gold high heels and a slit skirt, high-tailed it after him, in the company of a bunch of taxi passengers who'd seen what happened and wanted to help.

"I don't know if it was out of chivalry or if they recognised me," said Munusamy, modestly.

Another stranger found the bag but the cellphone and cash it contained were gone.

Explaining her have-a-go reaction to the robbery, Munusamy said: "I'm fed up with being on the side that gets whipped all the time."

If getting whipped means driving a BMW convertible and carrying a bag containing R1 500 in cash, Skelm could handle that.

And Pirates? Well, they didn't get whipped, but they were held to a goalless draw by lowly Tembisa Classic.
