Finance Minister Trevor Manuel's "obsession" with selling the property of Terry Crawford-Browne will be frustrated, the anti-arms deal crusader said on Monday.
Crawford-Browne was responding to the latest application in the Cape High Court by the minister to attach a Durban property and sell it for R915 000.
"As for my 'hidden' property in Durban - it belonged to my mother who died in 1997 but I have no interest in it. It is located in a 'no-go zone', and was abandoned in March 2003 with the agreement of the Cape Town magistrate's court," said Crawford-Browne, citing the case number in a statement.
Crawford-Browne said a letter dated December 7, 2005, to the State attorney from his lawyers in Durban, confirmed that the property had no market value.
Manuel failed in a previous application to
sequestrate Crawford-Browne's estate.
At the time Crawford-Browne, who
has been battling to declare government's multi-billion arms deal null and void,
said he had no other assets except a rusty Uno car.
In the second
application, Crawford-Browne is believed not to have disclosed the Durban
property.
The application revolves around a R1-million legal bill that
Crawford-Browne has failed to pay the State.
He was ordered to pay the
legal costs when Ecaar-SA, the body he heads, failed in court to halt the
controversial arms acquisition.
