NPA to Decide Whether to Re-indict Zuma

The National Prosecuting Authority will decide after studying Monday's Appeal Court judgment whether to re-indict former Deputy President Jacob Zuma on corruption charges.

NPA spokesman Makhosini Nkosi told this to reporters following the Supreme Court of Appeal's ruling on Durban businessman Schabir Shaik's conviction and sentence on fraud and corruption charges.

"We are pleased that the matter of search warrants will come to the Supreme Court of Appeal which will adjudicate on whether they were lawful".

One out of three high courts had ruled in the NPA's favour in this regard.

The Appeal Court ruling in the NPA's favour would clear the remaining obstacles in the NPA's case against Zuma.

Commenting on the issue of Shaik's appeal having been resolved, Nkosi said that the NPA was vindicated in its decision to charge Shaik and his company Nkobi Holdings in the first place.

"No one derives personal pleasure from Shaik being jailed *1. However South Africa is a democracy and if the laws are broken there must be consequences, however unpleasant".

He said the National Director of the NPA, Vusi Pikoli, "would consider" Monday's judgement and chart the way forward.
