I thought the editorial comment (January 16) was quite brilliant, but do any of the hierarchy of the ANC take cognisance of what people on the ground are thinking?
Sadly, I think not, if the very blatant open-armed reception for Tony Yengeni is anything to go by.
Yengeni comes out of prison after just a little smack on the wrist and still shows no repentance. He then goes on to say that he is not the problem in this country, nor is Jacob Zuma, nor is Thabo Mbeki, nor the ANC.
The problem is poverty. Now in this I join his cry, except to say methinks the pot is calling the kettle black, as he walks out in his designer suits, steps into his top-of-the-range Mercedes Benz, with his ANC stalwarts driving their state-of-the-art cars. We all know what these cost.
Perhaps his New Year resolution could be to help alleviate poverty and to take a firm stand on corruption, which in the long run aids and abets the poverty. If monies are being stolen that should be used for the poor, everyone in high office should be taking a firm stand.
So perhaps this could be Yengeni's new job?
