To pick up yesterday's Weekend Argus and see the suffering of a trussed-up bull in the garden of Tony Yengeni's parents' home, is one of the worst acts of total cruelty I have seen.

Then, to make matters worse, he then stabbed that unfortunate animal before it was slaughtered *1.

I certainly hope that the SPCA lays a charge of cruelty to animals and that Yengeni is slapped with a huge fine. Not that that will help that stressed bull now.

If this is African culture then I must say that my heart bleeds for any animal being kept for slaughter.

I hope this practice will be outlawed.

No animal deserves to be treated in this inhumane, disgusting manner.

*1       It's true that Homo sapiens is a carnivorous species and also that cultural relativism is true, but in the 21st century it's difficult to wonder why a purchase of the equivalent mass in steaks, roasts, tripe and sweetmeats cannot be made at the local Spar or Ranch Meatmarket, followed by the saying of a pre-meal thanksgiving grace to the gods and ancestors.
