Ex-U.S. Aide Fined as KGB Spy

A former U.S. press officer in West Berlin who escorted congressional delegations around the city was convicted yesterday of spying for the KGB for 13 years.

Stephen Laufer, 38, a South African-born German citizen, was given an 18-month suspended sentence and fined $13,000 by a Berlin judge who called him "an important person for the KGB."
