ANC deputy president Jacob Zuma says "the constitution makes it clear that, charged or not, one is innocent until proven guilty", and "it would be wrong, it would be unconstitutional" if he were to say he's "guilty, even before the court says so". (April 18, "I'll stand for ANC presidency if asked to - Zuma").
What the constitution says, in section 35, is that "every accused person has the right to a fair trial, which includes the right … to be presumed innocent …"
But the constitution does not remove an accused person's prior knowledge of his own innocence or guilt. Zuma already knows whether he's innocent or guilty. So do I, I reckon.
