Durban: A judge conducting an independent monitoring of Shabir Shaik is to study the latest medical report on the convicted fraudster in a bid to determine whether his prolonged stay at a Durban private hospital is justified.

Judge Nathan Erasmus, from the Judicial Inspectorate division, said he was getting regular reports and had not found anything irregular.

According to weekend reports, doctors who are monitoring Shaik are of the view that he should remain at a hospital where he can get adequate treatment because he has developed suicidal tendencies.
