Fresh from prison, the Armani’d One arrived, wholly unrepentant, at his parents’ home, where, during a press briefing, he managed a passable imitation of a fiery, if tubby, Ray Charles: white shirt, dark glasses, blind indignation, the whole bit.

Then, flanked by Western Cape ANC leaders James Ngculu and Mcebisi Skwatsha, he provided photographers with a picture that (in an echo of Bob Dole’s famous remark on former US presidents Carter, Ford and Nixon) may well have been captioned: “See No Evil, Hear No Evil, and Evil.”

What more can be said?
