The article regarding Vivian Reddy (The Mercury, July 20) makes for interesting reading.

At face value the article seems to have no other aim but to discredit a respected businessman. Why was it necessary for the name of Jacob Zuma to be mentioned?

The paragraph: "Zuma was sacked as deputy president after his financial adviser, businessman Schabir Shaik, was convicted in the Durban High Court of corruption . . . " is now used ad nauseum in all articles referring to Zuma. What is the purpose of this?

The picture of the plaque clearly confirmed the writers' agenda. It is mentioned that vandals have tried to scratch out the word "honourable" which appears before the name of Zuma. Why was this highlighted?

It seems obvious that the writers belong to a group of journalists whose prime ambition in life is to portray all persons linked to Zuma in a negative light.

Prominent personalities are fair game for attack. However, those who attack should exercise some decency and show some respect. The whole tone of the article is designed to insult, ridicule and belittle.

Reddy has made and continues to make tremendous contributions to various charitable organisations and causes. Many orphans with Aids are beneficiaries of his philanthropy. Many of the homeless were kept warm this winter thanks to the blankets he provided.

Many underprivileged children have access to computers made available by him. Electrical material donated by him provides lighting to the buildings of so many community organisations. The list goes on.

Unfortunately, Reddy allows his business to launder money obtained by criminal means from criminals like Thomson-CSF to other criminals.

Charge them all.

When the infirmaries of the correctional centres are full, these criminals will be able to afford private accommodation and care in a private hospital of their choice.
