The Democratic Alliance has called on the National Prosecuting Authority to get moving with the possible prosecution of Chippy Shaik, brother of fraudster Schabir.

But the NPA has remained adamant that it has no reason so far to go after Chippy.

The call by the DA follows the admission by Home Affairs Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula in parliament yesterday that Chippy Shaik was in possession of two passports.

In a written reply to a question from DA MP Eddie Trent, Mapisa-Nqakula said Chippy Shaik had two valid passports issued in 2001 and 2004 respectively. She said her department was probing this.

The latest controversy comes in the same week that the University of KwaZulu Natal announced it would investigate the validity of his engineering doctorate.

Trent said the fact that Chippy Shaik was a multiple passport holder would complicate a possible prosecution against him for his alleged involvement in the arms deal scandals, as he could skip the country at any time.
