The academic who supervised Shamim "Chippy" Shaik's allegedly
plagiarised PhD thesis resigned from the University of KwaZulu Natal. Professor
Viktor Verijenko tendered his resignation via e-mail.
This followed a Sunday Times report according to which "more than
two-thirds" of Chippy Shaik's 2003 degree in mechanical engineering from the
then University of Natal had been plagiarised. A university tribunal is to
decide whether to strip Shaik of his PhD. With acknowledgements to The Star.
