Director General in the Presidency, Frank Chikane, is meeting with leaders of opposition parties to explain why President Thabo Mbeki has sacked National Director of Public Prosecutions, Vusi Pikoli.

The meeting at the Union Buildings in Pretoria started on Tuesday afternoon and is being attended by all political parties represented in parliament.

Among these are Independent Democrats leader Patricia de Lille, Democratic Alliance parliamentary leader Sandra Botha and Inkatha Freedom Party member of parliament Koos van der Merwe.
