Schabir Shaik is back in hospital after suffering a mild stroke last week, the Department of Correctional Services said yesterday. Spokesperson Manelisi Wolela said Shaik had been transferred to Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital in Durban. "Shaik had some medical complications in prison and doctors advised he should be taken to hospital for further medical treatment." Shaik was sentenced to 15 years for fraud relating to his relationship with former deputy president Jacob Zuma. - Sapa
A total of 106 passengers were left stranded at OR Tambo International Airport after their SA Airlink plane en route to Pietermaritzburg was diverted back to Joburg. Passengers were told that they were diverted because of a technical fault at Pietermaritzburg Airport. One of the passengers, Jill Patterson-Roberts, said: "We left at 6.45pm, circled around Pietermaritzburg and the next thing we knew we were back in Joburg. A woman accused of stealing a newborn baby from a mother in KwaZulu Natal earlier this month has appeared in the Mtubatuba Magistrate's Court, police said yesterday. Captain Jabulani Mdletshe said 26-year-old Henie Sidewise Gabela would remain in custody until her next court appearance on November 21, when she would apply for bail. The 17-hour-old baby was allegedly stolen when its mother Lindiwe Mngomezulu went to buy shoes. - Sapa

After two days of giving evidence, a girl has admitted in the Grahamstown High Court that she consented to having sex with a man charged with raping her. Xolisa Mngcongo (26) of Joza, Grahamstown, is alleged to have held the girl captive at his house and raped on February 25. The girl, who was 10 years old at the time, admitted under cross-examination that parts of the accused's plea explanation were true, that she did know Mngcongo, and there had been an agreement to have sex. A parolee from Johannesburg Prison was arrested in connection with the murder of a woman, police said yesterday. Louis Jacobus Labuschagne (42) was arrested in Bez Valley on Wednesday for the murder of Charmaine Matthysen (62). She was strangled with an electric cord in her home on September 25 2007. – Sapa
