The State began its argument against African National Congress president Jacob
Zuma's last ditch bid to prevent the use of documents against him in the
Constitutional Court, in Johannesburg, on Wednesday.
On the second day of the hearing, the State contested Zuma's assertion that
controversial search and seizure raids violated his constitutional rights.
Zuma's entry into the court room was a quiet affair with only posters reading "Save
the Scorpions" placed over dustbins *1
outside the court building.
Advocate Wim Trengove was about to resume for the State to counter argument
delivered on Tuesday by Advocates Kemp J Kemp and Peter Hodes for Zuma and Thint
respectively.
Zuma, Hulley and Thint are appealing a Supreme Court of Appeal decision on the
matter and hope to get the warrants declared invalid and the documents returned.
The Constitutional Court was originally going to hear only an application to
seek leave to appeal.
However it emerged on Tuesday morning that the court would hear the search
warrant matter at the same time as hearing the application for leave to appeal.
