Does everyone qualify to have their defence costs paid by the state? Or just
African National Congress members? Or just friends of the
president?*1 Would an ordinary member of the police force charged with
the same offences as police commissioner Jackie Selebi have his costs paid?
What is the requirement and rationale for this decision?
*2 We, the taxpayers, deserve to know.

*1*2 Don't be simple Jon; taxpayers'
funds for legal defences are available to all those able to squeeze the
president's testicles.
Normally these people are not his friends, or are no longer his friends,
although they might have been at some time or another (at least outwardly).
