The SAS Queen Modjadji, the final boat in a series of three 209/1400mod class submarines built for the South African Navy in Kiel and Emden, Germany, is pictured leaving Kiel for her maiden voyage to South Africa.

After a stopover in Rota, Spain, the submarine is expected to arrive at the Simon's Town naval base on May 22.

During the voyage, the SAS Queen Modjadji will be accompanied by the South African research vessel Protea.
