The National Executive Committee of the ANC on Tuesday reaffirmed its support
for the party's president Jacob Zuma as a candidate for the presidency of the
country in the 2009 elections.
This was in line with the resolution of the 2005 national general council, the
ANC said.
The NEC would also establish a committee to produce a report on the arms deal,
thus enabling the NEC to take detailed informed decisions on issues confronting
Zuma.
The NEC said it sought no special treatment for its
president -- only fairness and justice *1.
The NEC reaffirmed its commitment to the independence of the judiciary,
the rule of law and the principle of equality before the law.
