*1 Optimism, something to which I
used to subscribe even from 1976 to 1996.
Now that's given way to Pessimism, Optimism with a slight dose of South African
Realism.
*2 Any bets on how many new (transformed) senior Eskom
managers know the meaning of, inter alia :
- Ampere;
- Volt;
- Voltaire;
- Ohm;
- Hertz;
- Watt;
- What?;
- milliWatt;
- kiloWatt;
- MegaWatt;
- GigaWatt;
- kiloWatthour;
- Joule;
- Jewel;
- Pearl;
- Swine;
- Pig;
- Vark;
- Gross Profit;
- Nett Profit;
- Loss;
- GAAP;
- Garp;
- cents/kiloWatthour;
- sense.
*3 The difference is that we must live in extended reality.
*4 The "A-Team" has brought this country to its knees *5 in
just 14 years (just 3 election cycles).
The only question left is what the B-Team is going to do to it in the next 15
years, or 10 years or 5 years.
*5 Power-wise, this country has its entire grid switched off
when there is a power shortfall of 4 500 MW (4,5 GW).
At some stages in January the shortfall was in Brown Stage 3, i.e. a shortfall
of between 3,0 GW to 4,5 GW and hovered dangerous close to the 4,5 GW mark.
After a total collapse/shutdown of the grid this is truly a case of a country
being on its figurative knees, as not only is the entire country without primary
electrical power, but it takes days and possibly even weeks to restore it.
*6 Conceived between 1995 and 1997 by the combination with
black power and white brains and based on the model of :
- One for you, one for me and one for the ANC.
*7 The understatement of the millennium so far.
At present the following are in a state complete chaos, inter alia :
- Policing;
- SANDF;
- Eskom;
- Home Affairs;
- The Lower Courts;
- National Education;
- National Public Health;
- Roads;
- Water;
- Parliament;
- Office of the Public Protector.
At present the following are completely rampant, inter alia :
- violent crime;
- rape;
- corruption;
- road accidents;
- HIV/AIDS;
- TB;
- Malaria;
- Government lying.
At present the following is doing very well :
It figures.
But in terms of personal income tax, only a tiny fraction of taxpayers make a
nett contribution to the fiscus.
