Ashin Singh filed papers in the high court earlier this week asking to be
allowed to intervene in the Zuma/Thint trial as an amicus curiae and lead
evidence indicating why he believes Billy Downer SC should be interdicted from
prosecuting the case.
Singh alleged his personal experience raises a "reasonable apprehension" that
the accused will not get a fair trial if Downer remains on the prosecution team.
Singh alleged that Downer proceeded to prosecute him [Singh] in the past despite
knowing the prosecution was "unfounded" *1 and "had
not received a lawful instruction to institute a prosecution".
Singh alleged his prosecution was pursued for malicious
reasons and he was prosecuted on the basis of "false allegations and false
evidence". *2
He states that he was severely prejudiced and felt "sorely aggrieved".
