Lawyers for Jacob Zuma and the State will meet in the next few weeks to try
and prevent further delays in his possible corruption trial, the NPA said on
Tuesday.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Tlali Tlali said the meeting would determine the dates by which each side would have to file papers and responding papers.
How to deal with indictments and interlocutory applications would also be discussed.
"It's any other pre-trial matter that has the potential of causing a delay," said Tlali.
"Between now and the 15th of August we are going to agree on the principles that are going to manage the process."
Judge Chris Nicholson told the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Tuesday the provisional date for Zuma to stand trial was December 8, but that the dates for trial would be deliberated on August 15.
Nicholson on Tuesday reserved judgment on Zuma's effort to have the bringing of criminal charges against him declared unconstitutional, and to have those charges set aside as invalid.
He would hand down his ruling on September 12.
Zuma, 66, faces a charge of racketeering, four charges of corruption, a charge of money laundering and 12 charges of fraud related to a multi-billion rand government arms deal. - Sapa
