Schabir Shaik's health took "a bad dip" on Friday and was "generally deteriorating", says Dennis Bloem, chairman of Parliament's portfolio committee on correctional services.

Bloem said the person who had told him was "ideally placed" *1  to know what was happening with Shaik, 51.

"I am very concerned about this news," said Bloem.

The committee would discuss Shaik's condition with Durban's Westville prison on September 16, he said, "and deal with it properly".

Watch this space, Shaik will get discharged from prison on health grounds and then make a miraculous recovery.
