People with new information on the controversial arms deal should
hand it to the police or the Scorpions for
investigation, said Thabo Masebe, spokesman for president Kgalema Motlanthe,
today *1.
He said Motlanthe would consider the request by Nobel peace prize laureates
Archbishop emeritus Desmond Tutu and former president FW de Klerk for a
commission of inquiry, but at the same time, law enforcement authorities should
be informed of any new developments.
"There has been an investigation by a number of agencies which was followed by
prosecutions," said Masebe.
"So if there is any information... that information must be given to the law
enforcement agencies so that they can investigate. As government we support
that."
De Klerk and Tutu wrote to Motlanthe this week asking for an independent
commission of inquiry, and hoped to receive a response by December 10.
