Now that our esteemed judges have finally ruled in line with what the rest
of the South African public seem to understand to be fair and just with regards
to ANC president Jacob Zuma's trial: Let us hope this matter does not have to go
through the Supreme Court or Constitutional Court before it is recognised that
Zuma has been the prime cause of delay in his own case. There should be no
reason why our judges cannot conduct a fair trial going forward.
Meanwhile the rest of us will sit and wonder how JZ's partner, in his alleged
crime, Schabir Shaik is doing 15 years while Zuma is about to get away scott
free. Perhaps some apologist within the legal fraternity or the ANC can at least
try convince us that every person is equal before the law, that the justice
system has not simply become a system that allows lawyers to make
obscene amounts of money through
deceitful interpretation and manipulation of the
law at the expense of justice, and that there is some common sense and
consistency that prevails in our judiciary system.
I doubt there is a single person who holds the judiciary in the same regard as
in the past. The judgments passed down are just so far apart it is astounding.
Not to mention the Cape Judge President John Hlophe saga...
