10.10 Fibre Optic Cable

C²I² Systems advised that a decision regarding fibre optic cable was required in order to make further progress with the fibre plant design as well as provide a final offer regarding IMS development. The main issue was whether to use locally manufactured cable (i.e. from ATC) or SAFENET-specified cable (manufactured in the USA). Local cable would be less expensive, but would probably not comply to the requirements of the system specification. ATC had also proved unreliable, both in this project as well as Project Oyster. SAFENET-specified cable was significantly more expensive, but would be more dependable as well as meet all, if not most specified requirements.

It was decided after thorough analysis , that fibre optic cable with the following attributes would be used for the CS :
